I have worked on an immersive visualization and
interaction of multidimensional archaeological data. The aim is to
help archaeologists to classify various kinds of data (text, 3D
object, image, video, ...) by placing them into a 3D scene.
The final application must run on a huge wall screen (6m x 3m),
with a wireless joystick and a tracked glove to move and interact
within the scene.
My thesis in PDF.
The publication that sums up the research.
The poster presented during the departmental
postgraduate conference (A1-PDF 4.5Mo).
Hereafter is the advance of the work week after week, particularly
rich of screen shots.
September |
A couple of video ! (divx) About the sea level, the billboard set and 3 flythroughs a little similar: fly1, fly2 and fly3. 2 examples of 'map table' mode: the movement of the frame is due to the user's head ... table1 and table2. |
July |
Many new screen shots ! Again, probably the best ones
ever... The GUI (Graphical User Interface): Enhanced/classified cropmarks: Density map and density compass: New screen shots on old stuff: |
Week 23 |
The screen shots designed for my mid-year report. Maybe
the best ones. |
Week 22 |
Integration of a 3D model designed by an archeologist of the
Hayton Roman Fort. Visit of English Heritage and demonstration of the application. |
Week 20 |
Representation of discret values by the way of colored
sticks. |
Week 19 |
Dynamic swap between textures. |
Week 18 |
Integrate Warren's module that allows to run the same viewer on
2 different PCs. Will be useful for the HIVE screen, which
architecture includes 2 projectors, each one driven by its own
PC. Add a sea level representation to have an idea of the past geography. |
Week 17 |
Integrate Warren's module to load DEMs (Digital
Elevation Model) as terrains. A DEM is a kind of 3D map. In our
case, it can be mapped with satellite pictures, aerial pictures
(with crop marks) and standard OS maps (Ordnance System). |
Week 16 |
Develop a mini map to have an overview of the terrain
and the finds on it. The main feature is to represent the view
field. That can be a very bizarre shape, due to the full-3D terrain
and point of view. |
Week 12 |
Add wireless gamepad to control the scene without any
static device like keyboard or mouse. |
Week 10 |
Add billboards (picture/text) management. Can be
extracted, collected, sort. Smooth rotative billboard set. |
Week 7 |
2D Icons and spinning 3D cubes available. Can pop up
ASCII files, images and 3D objects. Define theses widgets into a file. |
Week 5 |
Add variable spot light to my submarine. Clickable icons attached to interessant objects, poping up objects details or information. Keyboard managed firework. |
Week 4 |
Tests about water, submarine effects like bubbles, algae, black
smokers. LCD class, used as depth indicator or timer. |
Week 3 |
Herr ... different types of trees like poplars. |
Week 2 |
First of all, Christmas Trees with flashing festoons. Then
Automatic creation of trees, tests of sky and terrain. |
